About Matthew Sweeney, L.Ac.

Most patients who find their way to Berkley Acupuncture have already tried something else — physical therapy, chiropractic, massage, or standard acupuncture — and haven't gotten the lasting relief they were looking for. That's exactly who this practice was built for.

Matthew Sweeney is a Licensed Acupuncturist and one of a small number of practitioners in Michigan trained in Fascial Counterstrain (FCS) — a light-touch connective tissue technique developed by Brian Tuckey that targets inflammation at the source by working directly with the fascia. While most acupuncturists offer one tool, Matt brings several: acupuncture, Fascial Counterstrain, myofascial therapy, and cupping, combined based on what each patient actually needs.

Matt has been running Berkley Acupuncture in the Bloomfield Hills area since 2015, working with patients dealing with chronic pain, stress, sports injuries, digestive issues, and complex conditions that don't respond to conventional treatment.

Why He Does This Work

In 2008, Matt was working in a crashing real estate market and struggling with severe stress and anxiety. Searching for relief through alternative medicine, he found acupuncture — and it worked. That experience made him realize he wanted to help others the same way, and he enrolled in acupuncture school shortly after.

Years later, after discovering Fascial Counterstrain through Tony Robbins' book Lifeforce, Matt pursued intensive training in the technique and began integrating it into his practice. The results for patients with chronic, complex, or treatment-resistant pain were significant enough that FCS became a core part of what Berkley Acupuncture offers.

What Matt Focuses On

Chronic pain, neck and back issues, migraines, TMJ, stress and anxiety, digestive conditions, women's health, sports injuries, and cases where other treatments haven't delivered lasting results. He also incorporates Chinese herbal formulas, nutritional guidance, and lifestyle recommendations when appropriate.
